Before and beyond ROY HART THEATRE

An artistic vision by Ivan Midderigh

Edited by Clément Caudal

On the first of July 1974 seven pioneers with big visions and brave voices arrived from London to begin a new chapter in the story of the Roy Hart Theatre.

Over the past fifty years, company member Ivan Midderigh has photographed the evolution of the work of the Roy Hart Theatre and the transformation of Malérargues from a hamlet in ruins to the thriving international centre for voice and creation that it is today.

This photographic history is Ivan’s love letter to the extraordinary group of people who rebuilt Malérargues from ruins, brick by brick, and who continue to teach and produce theatre there today. It is a visual record of an extraordinary story spanning over a century.

Your donation enables the Malérargues Endowment Fund to support publications such as this one and ensure the preservation for posterity of the legacy of Alfred Wolfsohn, Roy Hart and the Roy Hart Theatre.
